Sidetrack Bar and Grill

The Experience: I got to the restaurant at about 1pm on a Sunday to what I were told by my Uncle Sid (who lives right by the place) that it was the busiest he’d ever seen. The main attraction of the joint is the Amtrak literally rushing by 5 feet outside the patio, but with 80 degree heat we ate inside. Our waiter was on his first day on the job, and our order  took over an hour to come through as he “forgot about us.” That didn’t help things, and neither did the fact that there was no air conditioning, and no breeze coming from the open doors.

Burger Ordered: Hamburger

The Taste: The burger, which their menus hail as “one of the top 20 in America,” was the epitome of average [Editor’s note: the GQ list referenced has other puzzling entries, and thus is not trusted by Burger Weekly]. Maybe it was slightly above average, but nothing special at all. I got it plain to really make sure I could taste the nuances and flavor in the meat, but it wasn’t particularly tasty. One thing it was, was filling. For a 6 dollar burger and fries, it filled me up the rest of the day.

The Verdict: This was an average burger, but far from belonging in a national top 20.

Sidetrack Bar and Grill is located at 56 East Cross Street in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
