Blue Dog Kitchen

Beautiful: The Carol King Musical was great. I loved it, and before I saw it, I ate a burger at Blue Dog Kitchen. One of Blue Dog’s several locations is at Worldwide Plaza, conveniently located near the Theater District. So when my mom visited and wanted to get a large dose of Carol King’s music, a cursory search of Hell’s Kitchen burgers and brunch led me to Blue Dog. The restaurant is very popular and very small, so the wait can be very long. Further, you’re going to be eating ON TOP of other patrons. But is the food worth it?

Burger Ordered: Blue Dog Burger

The Taste: This brisket and chuck patty is topped with crispy bacon, a sunny side up egg, tomato confit, and pickle. It says that it’s topped with lettuce and tomato as well, but my waiter brought mine out without it and to be honest, I was happier for it. The burger patty was heavily seasoned, a flavor that was balanced nicely by the pickles. The crispy bacon was very salty, and added a necessary crunch in the face of the runny egg. A buttery, toasted bun rounded out this very tasty experience.

The Verdict: There are few good burgers available for a pre-show bite, and Blue Dog is my current reigning champion.

Blue Dog Kitchen is located at 308 West 50th Street in Manhattan, New York.
